3/15/1945 - 6/17/2016
Raymond William Basso, a resident of Menlo Park for 46 years, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his children, on Thursday morning June 17, 2016. Born in San Francisco, to Lawrence Basso, and Catherine (Lena) Basso on March 15, 1945, Raymond is now reunited with his parents, and younger brother, Richard Basso, and his dear wife, Mary (Moroney) Basso. Raymond's early years were spent in San Francisco. He attended Saint Vincent De Paul Elementary School, Saint Ignatius High School, and then went to Santa Clara University where he graduated with a degree in Political Science. It was there that he met and fell in love with his beautiful bride, Mary Moroney (Basso). They were married in 1967.
In 1971, Raymond went on to get his MBA from Santa Clara University. He spent most of his adult life working for Hewlett Packard as a Comptroller. After nearly 30 years at HP, he then worked for his family business Guyan Eagle for several years. In his retirement, he was a member of the San Mateo Grand Jury, and in 2011 he was the foreman of the Grand Jury.
Mary Basso passed away on April 1st of this year. Together they leave behind their beloved children; Ray Basso Jr, Sarah (Luis) Vergara, Brian (Samantha) Basso, and Anne-Marie Basso. Raymond will be dearly missed by his brother, Dr. Lawrence (Susan) Basso, and his sister-in-law Sheila (Ron) Santero, and brothers-in-law, Carl Moroney, Barry (Faye) Moroney, Tom (Carole) Moroney, and Mark Moroney, and his many nieces and nephews.
Raymond was a doting grandfather to his seven grandchildren who will never forget their amazing "Pop"; Kevin Basso, Andre Basso, Noah Vergara, Luca Vergara, Sofia Vergara, Cade Basso and Jenna Basso. A memorial mass will be held to honor Raymond's life on Friday July 8th at Church of the Nativity in Menlo Park at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate contributions in Raymond's memory to the Knights of Malta. Checks can be made out to Nativity Church and annotated, "In memory of Raymond Basso." This organization takes cancer patients as pilgrims to Lourdes. Both Ray and Mary had an inspiring spiritual journey on their trip to Lourdes with the Knights of Malta in 2011.
