John Brennan sent along the news he received from Tony Simi and Pat Cooney that Pete Ackenheil passed yesterday, January 13, from complications due to several strokes. My last two years of grammar school were at St. Agnes where I had the privilege of playing on the 8th Grade CYO championship team with Pete (I was the tenth guy on a 10-man team). Our coach was Joe Sebastinelli, a fireman, who coached us in his spare time. I'm certain that may have been an influence on Pete's joining the SFFD, where he had a great career. My fondest memory is of a Chronicle front page photo of him carrying an infant out of a burning building. One other memory is of the one time I actually bested him at handball in St. Agnes' lower yard. A minor, but cherished, victory, considering the innumerable times he would beat all comers. There were a few people named Peter who had my respect, and he was one of them. My son is named Peter in honor of him and them. Please join me in praying for the repose of his soul and for his family. Peace — Art Lenhardt '59
